Kaiser Permanente is Helping Schools Thrive in Northern Virginia
Kaiser Permanente is addressing health and wellness for students, teachers and staff of Northern Virginia schools through the Thriving Schools Initiative (TSIA). Thriving Schools is a multi-faceted initiative that looks at the physical, mental, and social health drivers within schools. Thriving Schools provides resources, programs, technical assistance, and funding to ensure that everyone who steps foot into a school can be healthy and thrive and has committed $75,000 in grant dollars for Northern Virginia schools in 2024.
The TSIA (pronounced SEE-AH…. the T is silent) was developed in partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a national leader in school health and creators of the Healthiest Schools in America award. The TSIA is a comprehensive assessment tool for schools and districts to help identify the policies, systems and environmental changes that support wellness across 14 different areas of health. The TSIA covers topics such as Cultivating Staff Well-Being, Fostering Positive School Climate & Culture, Improving Nutrition & Food Access, Increasing Family & Community Engagement and more.
School districts such as Fairfax, Prince William and Loudoun Counties have worked through one or more of these topics, with support from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, to identify strengths and gaps and implement evidenced-based solutions that measurably improve the health of students, teachers, and staff. Kaiser Permanente is supporting those solutions via grant dollars to the school districts. Kaiser Permanente has committed over $75,000 to support Northern Virginia schools to become the healthiest schools in America.
