For the fifth consecutive year, Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (SNVMC) sponsored the George Mason University women’s basketball annual Play4Kay Pink Game on February 8, 2024, at the EagleBank Arena. Play4Kay is a national outreach initiative named in memory of legendary Hall of Fame Coach Kay Yow. A key element at a Play4Kay game is taking the time to raise awareness and to celebrate female cancer survivors, thrivers, and warriors. 

The Sentara Cancer Network Resource Center welcomed breast cancer survivors for a pre-game reception. During halftime, the survivors were honored on the court of EagleBank Arena. SNVMC President Jeff Joyner and Sentara Cancer Network Navigator Heather Byrne were interviewed and shared important tips about cancer awareness and cancer prevention. A key message was the importance of a timely mammography screening, one of the best ways for detecting breast cancer early on. Early detection saves lives.
