United Community partners with MGM National Harbor to fight poverty and promote hunger relief in Northern Virginia

This spring marked the beginning of an exciting philanthropic collaboration between United Community, and our fellow NOVA Chamber member, MGM National Harbor. United Community is an over 50-year-old nonprofit offering an array of human services that lifts families in Fairfax County out of poverty. We are proud to share that we are joining forces with the resort-casino to better serve communities in Northern Virginia.

Team members from MGM National Harbor enthusiastically volunteered their time and effort this past March to support the renovation and expansion of United Community’s Food Pantry in Alexandria. MGM volunteers took up their brushes and spent an afternoon painting the pantry, creating a welcoming space that will better serve the needs of Northern Virginia's most vulnerable. The pandemic caused a 300 percent increase in demand for food overnight, and inflation has caused food demand to remain incredibly high in the communities we serve. Our Pantry has seen much wear and tear throughout the pandemic while we have worked to meet our community’s needs and we are so grateful for MGM’s support in renovating and expanding our facility.

MGM National Harbor is committed to making a difference in crucial areas such as hunger relief, education, workforce development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. United Community is so grateful for MGM’s philanthropic partnership and dedication to supporting our mission through volunteerism. Thank you, MGM, for promoting a culture of community and giving back! Together, we can build thriving communities in Northern Virginia.
