Volunteer Fairfax Brings Community Together and Celebrates MLK Jr.’s Legacy

Each January, Volunteer Fairfax hosts its Martin Luther King, Jr. Week of Service – Give Together, uniting local volunteers, corporate partners, and community members for a day of service across Northern Virginia. The event emphasizes the importance of volunteering, particularly for children and teens, while addressing critical community needs.

This year, 597 attendees contributed to impactful projects for local nonprofits. Highlights included assembling 400 student emergency preparedness kits for Fairfax County’s Department of Emergency Response, crafting 60 no-sew fleece blankets for Capital Caring Health, and preparing 300 Power Packs and over 1,300 pounds of food donations for Food for Others. Volunteers also created 600 Valentine cards for Meals on Wheels recipients, care kits for children with cancer, and supplies for animal shelters, ensuring support reached a wide range of community programs.
