Easterseals Spring Fling Event Organized by Teen Volunteers

Easterseals’ Jo Ann & Carl McNair Community Child Development Center in Falls Church holds an annual event that allows families to come together for a fun day, with games, crafts, and other diversions. This year’s Spring Fling was organized by a group of young women, members of the International Rainbow Girls. Ella Pendelton took the lead in working with the center staff. The volunteers coordinated every aspect, planning the activities, preparing all the promotions, and coordinating additional volunteers. The team even arranged for supplies to be donated, helping the center save money.

Not only did attendees declare the Spring Fling a tremendous success, but the young women also went one step further, planning a subsequent Mardi Gras dinner. In addition, an ongoing bake sale is expected to bring the total raised for the Center to over $1,000.

Center Director Marjorie Tolson says working with the volunteers aligned perfectly with Easterseals’ commitment to inclusion. “Easterseals isn’t like any other child development center,” comments Tolson. “We’re also working to develop tolerance within the community and help everyone understand that our differences are what make us similar.”
